Welcome to The Franklin H. Williams Caribbean Cultural Center/African Diaspora Institute - the only cultural arts organization in the US that represents all of the diverse artistic expressions and traditions of the African Diaspora. This year the Center celebrates 23 years of presenting the best and most enriching cultural arts programming in New York City. The Center is host to a wide range of original cultural programming such as concerts, visual arts exhibits, special lectures, and international conferences. Our community-oriented programs exemplify our commitment to celebrating, documenting, and creating community dialogues about the diverse cultures of the African Diaspora.

Martha M. Vega Ph.D., the founder of the Center, envisioned an organization that recognized the diverse and often not recognized cultural artistic expressions of people from the African Diaspora. While the mission of the Center has always been to give voice to community issues, fostering emerging artists, garnering popular acceptance and interest in African Diasporic arts, it is the linking of this vision to a strong political ideology that is the foundation of the center. These tenets are what distinguish the center from other cultural arts organizations and ensure our importance.

With a long tradition of paving the way for artists such as Dizzy Gillespie, Tito Puente, and a host of other multi-talented artists from the African Diaspora, The Caribbean Cultural Center is truly a unique institution. With new leadership and staff, we are excited to be at the forefront of the multi-cultural arts movement in New York. As we approach the new millennium, please join us in promoting our important mission by participating in these progressive and impassioned programs.
